It came in a box…

June 17, 2010 nutrition June 17, 2010

The Today Show had this story about what is REALLY in your diet food. I have a real problem with this and thought I’d share. The story talked about ALL of the people that are eating this food in order to diet. WHAT?! STOP IT! If you are eating these to lose weight…STOP IT! EAT REAL FOOD! QUIT EATING FOOD THAT COMES IN A BOX! Take a look at the ingredient list to the left. I copied this from http://www.foodfacts.com/members/item_info.cfm?item=17062 where they showed the ingredients and highlighted the “controversial” ones. This is from Weight Watchers Smart Ones Meatloaf with Gravy and Garlic-Herbed Mashed Potatoes. I have nothing against Weight Watchers or these other companies that make these meals. They are trying …

What motivates you?

June 12, 2010 motivation June 12, 2010

I was asked this question the other day by a friend and coworker…how do you stay motivated?  GREAT QUESTION!  I’ve been thinking about it ever since! What is motivation? I looked it up.  For my generation, google to wikipedia is generally what we mean by researching a topic! :) Wikipedia says:  “Motivation is the activation or energization of goal-oriented behavior.  Motivation is said to be intrinsic or extrinsic.”  So true! After giving this some thought (so glad I did…thanks Robb) I am now aware that what motivates me may not motivate you.  What does that dinosaur running behind you represent? What motivates me? I am an internally motivated person. I am Type A. Duh!  If you have talked to me for 5 seconds you have ...

You Bar

June 4, 2010 nutrition June 4, 2010

What a cool idea!!! You can design your own energy/protein bars, shakes, cookies, trail mixes, cereals and mixes including all of the natural ingredients you like, without all of the preservatives and additives! If you don’t like your custom creation, you can return the entire box and they will replace that box with a free box of something else! Now THAT’S customer service!!! They are quite pricey, BUT what a great gift idea for someone…like me :-)     (Just kidding really…please don’t get me this for a gift!) Check it out here…… http://youbars.com/

Your tastes will change, I promise…

June 3, 2010 nutrition June 3, 2010

We started a few years ago replacing some unhealthy and processed foods with healthier versions.  We replaced white bread with whole grain/wheat versions (bread? what’s that? we haven’t had bread in the house in over a year!), then white pasta with whole wheat, brown for white rice and yams for white potatoes.  We don’t even think about the “bad” stuff anymore but when we go out we often eat a “cheat” meal with the bad stuff and it becomes evident both how bad we feel when we eat it and how much we have grown to like the taste better of the healthier versions. For our family, we don’t handle carbs too well so we feel better when we eat less of them and whole ...

No Salicylic Acid during Pregnancy

June 3, 2010 Uncategorized June 3, 2010

So it begins….I am researching and therefore sharing with all of you the things that are good and bad for pregnancy.  I figure since I’m putting all of this effort into researching, I might as well share with all of you! So, it begins… No, I am not pregnant, but I believe that if you’re trying to get pregnant you should treat your body as if you were pregnant (within reason) just in case since that first trimester is so important.  I am aware that the first few weeks (before you find out you are pregnant) the baby is protected from a lot – but to me, better safe than sorry. And, yes, I know I need to post on my findings and journey toward ...
