I have been complaining about this for years…ever since I learned about fitness, nutrition and health and discovered that all my years of dieting through high school and college were to get “skinny” which was both destructive to being lean and also bad for my overall health…well, and just STUPID! My goal now is to build muscle and to lower my body fat and get LEAN! Keep in mind that your “skinny” friends may not have to work out or eat right but they may not be in the best health. I have never “hated” my friends who don’t have to eat right or work out….to each his own, but the older I get the more my hard work in the gym and hand-to-mouth control is more for health and not for looks (hence, my current dilemma and crisis with my upcoming competition). I am not as concerned about my weight as I am my overall health and how long I will live and how good I’ll feel living it!!!
This is a great video…showing the problem with “skinny fat.” It only talks about BMI and body fat. I think they’re missing a key component. We know that staying lean is healthy in general, for overall health. There have been many studies that show that lowering your calories or living on a calorie-restrictive diet actually prolongs life, BUT there is a point where unhealthy dieting can cut into your muscle mass to the point of being dangerous also….
So, are you skinny fat? Or are you lean? Do you strength train AND do cardio during your weeks? Do you eat healthy? “FOOD” for thought!

I loved reading your post. I too, saw the same segment/video and had some of the same thoughts.
Stay positive!
