bye bye old counters…

August 11, 2010 in home

I know these counters like the back of my hand now because I have had to bleach the grout EVERY day and sometimes I’ve had to use a grout pen to paint the grout!  There is a long (slippery slope) story about how we went from me burning the stove to getting granite….yep! That’s how it happened!  Good news is that we ordered the granite today so we’ll have it in a few weeks and I will post a lovely photo of our updated kitchen then!

I just have to say it again and again and again…whoever thought that putting WHITE GROUT in a kitchen is CRAZY!  (I won’t say they deserve to be shot again b/c it  might happen as often as I’ve said it! And, I’m sure there actually is a person who had this crazy idea…maybe they’re reading….it’s crazy!)

Before & After bleaching and using a grout pen on my old counters ~ I took this pic about a year ago w/ my point and shoot....how times have changed!!!

The only thing we’ll be missing after the range and granite will be a new counter depth, Stainless Steel Refrigerator.  So, if you know of one for free, let us know because I’m not willing to spend another penny after paying for these updates this week!

Here is the look we are going for….

We picked the same granite. We have white counters. We picked a similar backsplash.  I need help accessorizing. I HATE things on my counters so I  usually leave them empty but I think it’s time to add something. Thoughts?

You’re going to love the granite! Let me know when you want to pick out canisters and stuff. I’d love to help you pick stuff out.

I hate things on my counters too – the more I can tuck away, the better – although, we do have a two tiered fruit rack and I think it’s attractive and functional… if it doesn’t serve a purpose, I think it doesn’t need to be in the kitchen.

We are getting granite soon too! How exciting is that! I can’t wait either.

I think that color will look awesome! We have black appliances so I think we’re going with a grey/black swirl.

I don’t think I could go as far as canisters Carol but I def need your help!! I like the idea of this simple, shallow bowl for oranges and apples – functional and something I wouldn’t mind looking at. I could do a little wire basket like that as well for my ACV – I keep that out so I won’t forget. The only appliance I keep out is my stainless coffee pot. My mixer is red and doesn’t match my kitchen – anyone want to trade? I have a pretty breakfast tray out now too. It’ll be fun coming up w/ ways to accessorize!

I have never met anyone who liked tile countertops (myself included). I HATE, HATE, HATE mine. That will be our next home project, and I can’t wait! Looking forward to seeing pics of your new kitchen soon!

@Emily – I wish! That’s our inspiration. Our kitchen is half that square footage!
