FIToby | crime scene

My books the day they arrived

Yes. I’m a nerd.  It’s true.  It slapped me in the face this week when I got my books for my Nutrition Certification….dove right in and LOVED IT!  This is my passion! I love this stuff!  I love reading about nutrition, fitness and all things health!

Where am I going with this nerd story? Well, one day last week I was talking about Toby (our golden retriever) and how much he’ll miss his daily runs with my ankle injury.  (I run him beside me when I ride my bike.)  Since he loves exercise, I called him FIToby….it cracked me up…read above that I’m a nerd.  :)

Pitiful Toby without his daily runs

FIToby is pitifully sad lately without his exercise. He loves his runs even more than I do! He lives for the time I get back from my bike ride or get home from the gym when I am ready to take him for his run!  Poor baby!  I attached a pitiful pic of him sulking. He’s good at that.

He had a little fun last night that seemed to brighten up his life a bit!!!  He caught a baby bunny. This is not the first time either. Many of our friends call him “Kujo” due to his killings.  He’s not much of a retriever. He’s just a hunter and killer. We watch his weight (my mom thinks I starve him…I don’t…I’m just not willing to have him look like every other golden retriever and be fat and unhealthy.) So, I think he’s hungry….all the time.  He kills and eats bunnies and birds the most.  Unfortunately, I reinforce his behavior. After the first few times he gobbled the bird or bunny (chewed…only a little..and then swallowed whole…with a loud gulp and bulge I could see going down his throat), I stopped running towards him yelling “drop it!” and started leaving him in a “sit…stay”  to go get a treat. THEN, I’d say “drop it” and he’d drop it and take the treat….prancing off, very proud of himself, knowing that his Master was pleased as well (thanks for the treat).  Ugh.  At least he didn’t eat the bunny?  Eww.  Gotta love blood stained jowls sleeping in the bed beside me!  Again, Eww.

crime scene

For good measure I had to include a photo of the crime scene.  Just gross. I had to hobble out there on crutches with my poop bag (great for picking up small, dead animals….I’ve used them many times!) and then go out there with my vodka cleaning solution to clean up the yuckity-yuck!  Oh what a night….

Note: Please forgive the crappy photography in this post.  I haven’t felt like taking a lot of time to set up shots lately since I can’t carry things all that well on crutches!  And, I wasn’t willing to leave the bunny until morning to get nice, natural lighting.

:(
As for the first part, I love being a nerd, too! Yesterday I pored over the psychology GRE study guide, reading and memorizing hundreds of psychology words… for fun! Nothing wrong with that!

Ugh dead bunny pict :( and if I may ask, where are you getting your nutrition cert from? If you’ve mentioned it in a prior blog I apologize as I have been out of it lol. My mom’s golden retriever is the same way. He used to be huge and fat till the vet put him on diet food then he was chewing on everything in site! So my mom started filling his food bowl with water during feeding…so he has to drink all that water while he eats and it totally feels him up and he has stopped chewing on stuff. Still hunts squirrels though lol!

You know, that’s probably how actual crime scene photos look – all stark and grisly. Eew. Maybe he thinks he’s a cat? ;)

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why didn’t you let him eat the bunny?

I never know w/ his finicky stomach. Will he throw it up on the carpet? It’s a wild bunny? Does it have a disease? I don’t know that it’s good for him. He’ll swallow it whole so will he choke on it? Who knows. I just feel like it’s best to not swallow the thing!

That makes sense – yeah, I was thinking about the disease thing – and the random bunny bugs it might carry…
