This entire show last week was great but this portion of it really hit home to me. It was about the amount of petrolium jelly we ingest from use of lip glosses and chap sticks. So, the lady on screen answers that she puts the stuff on 3-4 x a day…HA try 30-40 for me probably….no really, truthfully probably 20! So, my amount over a decade is probably MORE than he shows on this clip! OMG!
He recommends switching to beeswax and while I can’t COMPLETELY give up my lip gloss, I can switch to a beeswax chapstick when I’m at home, in the car and in the gym and wear my gloss only when I’m out in public and want to look beautiful
(while risking cancer). Makes a lot of sense, I know.

So, I switched from Chapstick to Burt’s Bees Lip Balm but I’m keeping my favorite thing…
Passion Fruit Pop is my favorite….so now and then, I’m still going to use it! Ok, every time I step out of my car.
Here are some other products that Dr. Oz recommends against. One that was shocking and makes a lot of sense was the use of mineral powder makeups….I only use the Bare Minerals Bisque so I think I’m ok??? At least a little….. but it’s worth some research on your part if you’re concerned.
Great blog entry explaining the problem with mineral powders….

There’s a point where you can get totally crazy stressed about all the toxins everywhere because as we invent and become obsessed with NEW products, we have no idea what the long-term health effects are of these products…cell phones, iPhones specifically, mineral powders, new artificial sweeteners, new additives, preservatives and pesticides in our foods, down to our makeup!!! So, my philosophy will be to do the best I can but to not stress about it all because I can’t control EVERYTHING in my environment.
Life is a journey….I’m constantly learning and doing the best I can. Each day is a new day to learn and to change and grow. I am working on watching less TV and being on the computer less. I want to read more and use technology less! A lot of these changes can be good for us, I think. But who knows what 30 or 40 years will look like! Can’t wait to live long and healthy enough to be around to enjoy it…God willing!

Wow, I had no idea about the mineral powder, but it definitely makes sense. I use the Bare Minerals Bisque too. (And mineral veil) Might have to watch how much I use from now on!!
I know! So upsetting!
woah–great info. my bathroom vent is always covered in bare minerals. good thing I dont wear it hardly at all anymore! Not sure I can give it up though…
thanks for posting this…my wife will love your post, i will forward this to her
holy cow. we can’t do anything fun!
i’ve been using the burt’s bees for a while now, though, and i love it!
Well Bareminerals had been around since the mid 70′s so if it was that harmful for you I think we would have heard about it by now. However Titanium oxide which is in bareminerals is one of the only things that can truly block out UVA and UVB rays. So I guess the toss up would be possible minor inflammation in you lungs or wrinkles and possible skin cancer.
Good info Colleen!!!
