BEWARE!!! | Not all organic peanut butter is healthy!

How many ingredients are in your food? The fewer the better. The more words you understand, the better.

How many ingredients are in your peanut butter? ONE?! There should only be ONE…or TWO! Go check your label! Now. Go do it. How many ingredients? What are they?

I’ve told you all before I love Maranatha brand peanut butter.

I do not recommend all of their products though!! BEWARE of the NO STIR!!!

  • Ingredients in the Organic Peanut Butter- No salt are (1) 100% Organic Dry Roasted Peanuts
  • Ingredients in the Organic Peanut Butter – with Salt (1) 100% Organic Dry Roasted Peanuts (2) Sea Salt.

We’re still good…those are all approved (above).

BUT, what are the ingredients in the NO STIR?! What makes peanut butter NO STIR?! SUGAR!!!

  • Ingredients in the Organic Peanut Butter – No Stir are (1) 100% Dry Roasted Peanuts (2) Organic Palm Oil (3) Organic Cane Sugar (4) Sea Salt

Peanut butter already has sugar and carbs (not too many but plenty) and added cane sugar is not necessary.

Bottom line: read labels! I’m often surprised when I do a “recheck” of the labels of the foods in my house….oops!

Something on my list is to make my own peanut butter! Do you? Any tips or links? Share them below in the comments!

What food labels have shocked you lately?!

Carly - Making PB is really easy! Just whirl it in your food processor and scrape frequently. It takes a little bit of time to come together, but once it starts to liquify it moves quickly. Almond butter is another story… takes forever and has really dulled the blade on my processor. I love making my own PB because then I can experiment with fun flavors like pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon raisin, etc.

Christin@purplebirdblog - I prefer the Maranatha no-stir, and since it’s not partially hydrogenated oil and the sugar content is minimal, I actually don’t mind buying this product. Even the PB I make at home has salt, a little maple syrup, and macadamia nut oil in it! 🙂

tori - Maple syrup? Yum! I HATE stirring peanut butter! I’m the worst stirrer ever!! I get the oil everywhere and then it’s dry b/c I lost all the oil.

tori - GREAT tips!!! Was thinking I should make almond butter b/c it’s so expensive but great warning (and it’s SOOO loud to put almonds in the food processor!)

La. - I just NEVER stir. I just eat oily oats! And then when the bottom is all dry I just put my oats in the jar. Stirring stinkos BIG TIME. Every now and then we get a no stir because the creamyness IS SO WORTH IT!
